HDTV Stark Clarity Reveals All

December 29, 2006

This article from the L.A. Times examines the impact large screen high-definition TVs are having on the self-image of movie and TV stars.

The grain of film and the fuzziness of standard definition TV tended to be flattering to their faces. HD tells it like it is, and that often isn't to the stars' liking.

But not to fear, their makeup artists are developing new approaches to challenge the detail, eg. airbrushing. Cosmetics companies are developing new products. Directors of photography are experimenting with new lighting techniques.

And when all that fails, extreme closeups may well be banned.

Alas, there are those few actors who are calling the new reality refreshing.

Could start a whole new trend!
