Panasonic Blu-ray Disc Player
October 16, 2006
Panasonic's $1300 BD player is "now available," according to the official Blu-ray site. I should add, as of Oct. 18, if you can find one.
Several links to retailers were provided, and I checked Amazon, which listed the player as 2 available new and used. More interesting were the two customer reviews by early adopters.
These two reviewers already had Toshiba HD-DVD and Samsung BD players. Both said the Panasonic player's video quality was better than the Samsung, but not as good as what the Toshiba HD-DVD player was producing.
One recommended waiting for Pioneer's player, which is still supposed to be out in "October." Along with the Philips player, and Sony's (on October 25).
Blu-ray movie titles are starting to come out on dual-layer discs and with more sophisticated (than MPEG-2) compression protocols, which should make a significant difference.
